Sloppy Joe Casserole Recipe:
We love making sloppy joes. The ingredients are simple and the results are always an easy weeknight meal. This Sloppy Joe Casserole takes a twist on the classic recipe and the ingredients are layered in a casserole dish.

What is Sloppy Joe Casserole?
Sloppy Joe Casserole takes your classic recipe and cook it in a casserole dish. There is no need for a jar of Manwich when you can make the sauce from scratch. We added in some pasta and extra cheese to make the ultimate casserole recipe.
This is one casserole that your kids will eat. The casserole is loaded with cheese, ground beef and easy sauce to make your kids coming back for more.
Ingredients:
- Ground Beef
- White Onion, diced
- Minced Garlic
- Ketchup
- Brown Sugar
- Yellow Mustard
- Worcestershire sauce
- Farfalle Pasta
- Velveeta Cheese, cubed
- Colby Jack Cheese, shredded
How to Make Sloppy Joe Casserole:
- Step 1 – Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F and spray a 9X13 baking pan with a non-stick cooking spray.
- Step 2 – Brown the ground beef with the diced onions in a large pan over medium high heat. Crumble the ground beef as you cook it. Once the beef is browned, drain off any excess grease.
- Step 3 – Then add in the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes over medium heat until the garlic is aromatic.
- Step 4 – Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, yellow mustard and Worcestershire sauce. Stir to combine and simmer for a few minutes.
- Step 5 – Add in the diced Velveeta cheese. Stir and heat on low until the cheese is melted and combined with the other ingredients.
- Step 6 – Cook the pasta in a separate saucepan to al dente based on the package instructions. Drain and stir the pasta into the meat mixture being careful not to break the noodles.
- Step 7 – Pour the sloppy joe mixture into the 9X13 baking dish and cover with foil.
- Step 8 – Bake the casserole for 15 minutes. Then remove the foil, top with the shredded colby jack cheese. Bake for 10-15 more minutes until the cheese on top is melted and the edges start to brown.
- Step 9 – Serve warm and enjoy.
Easy Additions:
- Pasta – Penne or Rotini Past would also work great in this recipe.
- Vegetables – Add in vegetables to this meat mixture. We recommend red peppers, green bell peppers or even zucchini.
- Add Beans – This recipe would be delicious with some added beans. Pinto beans or black beans would make this meat mixture more hearty.
- Change the Cheddar Cheese – If you prefer not to use Velveeta, you can use shredded cheese. Pepper Jack Cheese would be a good change to this casserole recipe.
Can you Make Ahead?
Yes, this would be the perfect casserole to make ahead. Prepare the casserole as indicated and place in the refrigerator. It will stay good for up to 3 days.
When you are ready to heat in the oven, let it set out on the counter. We recommend setting out for about 30 minutes before placing in the oven.
How to Store Leftovers:
Refrigerate the leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days.We like to store in individual containers for an easy lunch the next day.

- Corn on the Cob – We love corn on the cob at my house. We have had it grilled, smoked, put in the oven with the corn husk on and boiled. My kids love it and it definitely a good side dish that we have often.
- Caesar Salad – Caesar Salad is one of my favorite types of salad. I used to always buy the salad kits at the grocery store but now I just make my own. It is so easy, tastes better and I’m saving money too.
- Garlic Bread – This casserole and the creamy sauce pairs perfectly with some garlic bread.
Recipe Tips:
- Spray Casserole Dish – We recommend spraying casserole dish with cooking spray. This prevents the noodles from sticking to the dish.
- Ground Beef – Cook ground beef with onions and crumble as your cook. We like to brown beef into small pieces.
- Sloppy Joe Sauce – We made our sloppy joe sauce with simple pantry ingredients. But if you prefer, you can use the can stuff.
- Velveeta Cheese – Add Velveeta cheese to the meat mixture and completely melt it in the skillet.
- Pasta – Cook pasta in a separate pan. Cook according to package and pasta is al dente.
- Cover and Cook – To prevent the cheese from burning, cover the baking dish with foil. This casserole takes about 25 minutes to bake. Cooking time will vary.
